Contributions to Control Systems in the winter semester 2017/2018

In order to support the professional exchange in control and automation technology far beyond the borders of our university, some years ago a colloquium series with the name “Contributions to Control Systems” was brought into being at the Institute of Automatic Control. Speakers from industry and research talk about their work in relevant developments and applications in the field of automatic control.

Self-regulation of grinding machines using data mining

Christian Büscher

Saint-Gobain Sekurit Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, Herzogenrath

Abstrakt:

One of the objectives of digitalization and Industry 4.0 is the optimization of production processes. Besides the widely discussed topics of Internet of Things and Big Data, one can already benefit from the new technologies without the need of enhanced connectivity on the shop-floor. We will present an example where we improved one single production process namely the grinding of automotive glasses using a few product, machine and process data and deployed data-driven control loops. Starting with the business and data understanding, the major steps within the data mining process are the data preparation and the evaluation of models where a close exchange between the different stakeholders is highly recommended. We will present best practices for such procedure models, the IT infrastructure and data processing and analysis.
