Abstract
This thesis addresses engineers and scientists in the field of active flow control. It describes the application of POD-Galerkin methods for the reduction of distributed parameter systems towards systems of ordinary differential equations. These reduced order models are used for the design of model predictive controllers. The procedure is demonstrated for three flow control applications. The focus of these application examples is on the incorporation of boundary actuation, compressible flows and model reduction for turbulent flows respectively. The model based controller design is performed with regard to the special requirements of the individual reduced order model and each of the model predictive controllers is tested in simulation.
