Start for TRIPLE Phase 2!
On June 1, the three projects TRIPLE-nanoAUV 2, TRIPLE-GNC, and TRIPLE-LifeDetect, funded by the German Space Agency at DLR, started.
The goal is a demonstration of the autonomous TRIPLE exploration system at Neumayer III Station in Antarctica in the spring of 2026, using the IceCraft-1 melting probe to propel the Launch-and-Recovery System (LRS) through the Ekström Ice Shelf. The LRS will deploy the nanoAUV under the ice when autonomously launching its exploration mission and collecting scientific data.
Our institute is responsible for managing TRIPLE-GNC and is working on developing the control and navigation software.
