The dynamics of flow processes are typically described with nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs). For an optimal operation of such processes model based control is necessary. The common approaches for model based control of PDEs are nowadays to either reduce the PDE-model by smart discretization and to design the controller based on the reduced order model or to use the PDE-model for a PDE controller design and discretize the controller afterwards. Problems arise here, as the model reduction technqiues are not customized for nonlinear flow processes. Furthermore, the steps of model reduction and controller design are seperated from eath other. This work present new techniques for model order reduction, which are general but customized for nonlinear flows, and a framework of optimal controller design including both model reduction and controller design based on PDEs.
